Presentation

Stéphane Thomat explores the appearance of geological formations through a poetic and intuitive approach.

Fascinated by mineral textures and the natural complexity of mountains, he translates their reliefs onto paper using a technique that combines sculpting the surface with airbrush painting.
Initially a passionate draftsman of ridges, valleys, and peaks, he filled his sketchbooks with graphic studies and experimented with materials such as leather to capture the richness of rocky surfaces.
It is, however, paper that would become his preferred medium, capable of expressing the depth of his visions.
His works, straddling the boundary between reality and the imagination, bring forth silent, timeless landscapes where the serenity of the mineral reigns—an invitation to contemplate the fragile yet resilient beauty of our universe.
