Presentation
When mankind explored their territory, they had to exploit every inch of terrain, letting their marks and their religious beliefs: oratories, crosses, chapels and blesses recounts the popular faith of the ancient mountain dwellers.
Outward route: from the car park, follow the signs for Chambéranger: leave the road and take the path on the left leading up to Chambéranger. When you reach the village, continue along the street to the Saint Barthélémy chapel. Turn left and cross the village: at the bend, leave the road and continue straight ahead.
Cross the old quarry and follow the signs along a forest path to the Notre-Dame de la Salette Chapel.
From the chapel, take the Way of the Cross and follow the path on the right towards Planay.
Leave the forest and cross the pastures. Follow the signs: the path passes to the left of a place called Le Chesalet. Descend to Planay.
Highlights of the route:
Discover Chambéranger, an authentic village with a well-preserved heritage. Organised into neighbourhoods, explore its steep streets punctuated by numerous bachals (stone steps). You will then cross the quartzite quarry, which was exploited to supply the Villard factory after the war. This circuit is an original testimony to the ‘faith of the mountains’.
